Marian is a PDF reader for iPhone and iPad.
This policy is short because Marian collects very little information. The statements below describe how the app actually operates.
Documents you add to Marian remain on your device or in the storage service you already use, such as Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive.
Documents added through the share sheet are copied into Marian's private storage on your device.
Documents opened through the file picker are not copied into Marian's storage. Marian keeps a reference to the file where it already lives and reads it from there.
In either case, Marian does not upload your documents to us.
Your original PDF is never modified. Highlights, notes and bookmarks are stored separately in Marian's local database and are not written into the PDF itself.

On your second launch, Marian asks whether you would like to share anonymous usage data.
Until you explicitly say yes, analytics are not enabled and Marian does not send analytics data.
You can change your choice at any time in Settings. Marian also shows you the types of information that would be shared before you enable analytics.

Marian's analytics events are deliberately designed to use only fixed values, ranges and yes/no information. They do not provide a field for arbitrary free text.

Marian does not use analytics for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites.
When you enable analytics, Google processes the analytics information on our behalf through Google Analytics for Firebase.
Google may process and store this information outside Australia. Google's handling of information is governed by its own privacy policies and terms.

We do not sell analytics data, provide it to data brokers, or use it for advertising.
We have configured analytics data retention to 14 months.
If you turn analytics off, Marian immediately stops sending new analytics data. Information that was already collected may remain subject to Google's applicable retention and deletion processes.
If you have enabled sharing with app developers under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide us with crash and performance information.
These reports are provided by Apple and are separate from Marian's own analytics.
Marian does not collect or control Apple's developer analytics settings.
Marian does not require an account or personal information to use the app.
If you contact us, however, we may receive the information you choose to provide. For example, an email to our support address may include your email address, name, device information, or other information contained in your message.
We use this information only to respond to your request, provide support, investigate problems, or otherwise communicate with you about Marian.
We do not use support communications for advertising or sell them to third parties.
Marian stores your library information, reading positions and annotations locally on your device. We do not operate a server that stores your documents or annotations.
When analytics are enabled, analytics information is transmitted to Google using Google's services and is subject to Google's security practices.
You should also use the security features provided by your device and operating system, including a device passcode where appropriate.
Marian is rated 4+ and can be used by people of any age. It is not directed specifically at children.
Marian does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Most information created by Marian — including reading positions, highlights, notes, bookmarks and collections — is stored only on your device. We do not have access to it and therefore cannot provide a copy of it from our servers.

For information stored locally by Marian, deleting the app removes the app's local data from your device, including document copies, reading positions, highlights, notes, bookmarks and collections.
If you have enabled analytics, turning analytics off stops future analytics collection. Previously collected analytics information remains subject to the applicable retention and deletion processes described above.

Apart from services you choose to use yourself to store or access your documents — such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive — Marian does not upload your documents to our own servers or disclose them to third parties.
If this policy changes materially, we will publish the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date.
If a change materially affects what Marian collects or how it is used, we will provide appropriate notice in the app and, where required, ask for your consent again.
We will not silently enable optional analytics that you previously declined.
